Pakistan's Flour Prices Soar Amid Petrol Price Hikes
Flour prices have surged across Pakistan due to repeated hikes in petroleum costs. According to the Flour Dealers Association, the price of a 20kg flour bag has risen by Rs. 150 over two days to Rs. 2,800 in Peshawar.
The standard 20kg bag now sells for Rs. 2,800 after increasing from Rs. 2,650, while fine flour prices have also increased. Reports from various cities indicate that flour prices vary greatly, with some 20kg bags selling for as much as Rs. 3,000 in Peshawar and Rs. 150 per kilogram in Sukkur.
Flour dealers attributed the latest increase to higher wheat prices and rising transportation costs, which have been exacerbated by repeated hikes in petroleum prices. The additional costs have forced suppliers to pass on the extra expenses to consumers.
