Pakistan's Power Grid Strained by RLNG Shortfall
The government of Pakistan has apologized for night-time power outages caused by the unavailability of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). According to a statement from the Power Division, load management had been carried out during peak hours due to a 3,600MW shortfall resulting from the delayed arrival of RLNG.
The situation was further complicated by a 195MW decline in generation from Mangla Dam. To meet electricity demand, furnace oil-based power plants were brought into operation during peak hours.
Despite these efforts, consumers experienced temporary load management of 1.5 to three hours during last night's peak hours. The Power Division has assured that this will be reduced as soon as the delayed RLNG cargoes arrive.
The statement also urged consumers to moderate their electricity usage during peak hours at night in order to minimize load management.
