Pakistan's Wheat Supply to Remain Stable in 2026-27 Despite Price Spikes

Pakistan's wheat supply is expected to remain stable in 2026-27, according to documents from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

The ministry has estimated that local wheat availability will reach 31.78 million metric tonnes, exceeding the country's total requirement of 31.66 million metric tonnes for human consumption, seed and feed, and strategic reserves.

The available supply is sufficient to meet Pakistan's projected requirements, but the decision to import wheat was made to stabilise local prices following a spike after the harvesting season.

The ministry has also highlighted changes in the country's wheat policy approach, including the withdrawal of official wheat procurement and minimum support price, as well as encouragement for private sector investment in the wheat value chain.
