Palm Oil Poised for Premium Status Over Soyoil in 2027 Amid Supply Risks
Palm oil may gain an edge over soyoil in 2027 due to supply risks, according to Eddy Martono, chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association. El Niño-induced dry weather is expected to impact production, leading to tighter supplies and potentially higher prices.
Martono forecasts that Indonesia's palm oil output will decline by 3.7% in 2027, reaching 56.6 million metric tons. Meanwhile, demand for biodiesel is likely to surge 18.5% from the previous year to a record 17.4 million tons.
This imbalance between supply and demand could push palm oil prices above those of soyoil, similar to what happened in 2024. The situation is particularly concerning for Indonesia, which is the top exporter of palm oil and relies heavily on this industry.
