Peltola's Oil Production Record Called into Question

Alaska Representative Mary Peltola has come under scrutiny for her stance on oil production in the state. In July, she unveiled a plan to make energy more affordable for Alaskans by increasing oil and gas development. However, records show that she voted against a bill introduced by herself and Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn) in 2023, which aimed to reverse Biden-era rules limiting or canceling oil and gas leases in Alaska.

The Alaska's Right to Produce Act would have reinstated canceled drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and overturned lease restrictions in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska. However, Peltola reportedly urged her colleagues to vote against the bill due to concerns over its impact on indigenous communities and the environment.

Peltola's record has been questioned by Senator Dan Sullivan's campaign, with a spokesperson stating that she 'turns her back' on Alaska and does what the Democratic establishment demands of her. The campaign also pointed out that Peltola cashed out as a lobbyist after being fired by Alaskans in 2024.
