Pennsylvania Farm Sees Record Corn Yields with Timely Rains and New Management Approach
Corn yields at Future View Farms in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, have been impressive, averaging 282 bushels an acre, with some fields reaching as high as 340 bushels. The farm's owners, Jeremy Railing and Ross Frey, attribute their success to timely rains and a new management approach involving foliar fertilizer and stress mitigation products.
Railing and Frey started the corn harvest on September 17, and have so far combined 150 acres. They also planted two full plots of corn hybrids to test their performance in different conditions.
The pair has forward-contracted more than 75% of their corn, locking in additional contracts when prices spiked this month. However, they are keeping some of the crop aside to take advantage of higher cash prices when they occur.
