Pennsylvania Farmers Prepare for Fall Despite Wet Weather Concerns

As fall begins on Tuesday, some farmers are preparing to welcome visitors to their seasonal attractions despite concerns over wet weather threatening to complicate the start of the autumn rush. Farmers such as Jim Hite at Hite Farms and Corn Maze in Pennsylvania have been dealing with the effects of recent rain, which has created new concerns for those heading into peak fall weekends.

Hite said that while the rain helped crops throughout much of the summer, it now poses a risk to ruining their harvest. 'As long as the rain helps us make the crop, it could actually start to ruin our crops,' he noted, adding that bad weather every weekend could significantly reduce admission numbers.

Hite Farms and Corn Maze will offer its corn maze and pumpkin patch to the public for five weekends through October 25. Many farmers, including those who offer public fall activities, are facing similar pressures as they struggle to turn a profit due to rising costs such as fuel prices.
