Pentagon Deploys Additional Troops to Middle East Oil Prices Surge
The Pentagon has announced plans to deploy a third aircraft-carrier strike group along with additional Marine Corps ships to the Middle East, significantly escalating its military presence in the region. This move will add up to 10,000 more troops, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal citing US officials. The news has triggered a sharp reaction in oil markets, with Brent crude prices rising by 1.9% and WTI crude by 2.0% following the announcement.
Separately, US President Donald Trump has indicated that a ramped-up bombing campaign against Iran after the midterm elections is "possible," as reported by Time Magazine. This statement has also contributed to the upward pressure on oil prices, with Brent crude gaining an additional 0.7% and WTI crude following with a similar increase.
In another development, Air Force jets were scrambled to intercept a plane that took off from Dubai to Tel Aviv after it sent out a distress signal. A "hijacking code" was reportedly entered by the plane, according to journalist Shemesh. Following the distress signal, the plane has not been in contact, raising concerns about its status.
