Gas prices in Peoria, Illinois have surged by 40 cents over the past week, according to AAA. As of September 14th, 2026, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the Peoria-Pekin area is $4.54.

This increase can be attributed to several factors, including crude oil costs, which account for about 60% of what drivers pay at the pump. Crude oil prices have risen to around $101 per barrel.

The high taxes on gas in Illinois also contribute to the higher prices that drivers are paying. Molly Hart, AAA's Illinois and Indiana media representative, noted that state and local taxes, transportation costs, and refinery operations can all affect what drivers pay at the pump.
