Persian Gulf Oil Spills Worsen Conflict Tensions
Oil spills have become a recurring issue in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea since the conflict started, according to satellite tracking. The Caroline Bezengi, a Cameroon-flagged crude oil tanker, was spotted spilling oil into the water off Al-Qibliyyah island in Oman on August 13.
Satellite images taken by European Union's Copernicus Sentinel-2 show suspected oil spills at sea off the coast of Iran, dating back to August 10. This is not an isolated incident; multiple oil spills have been observed in the region since the conflict began.
The Strait of Hormuz has been a key area of concern, with vessels anchored and waiting for clearance. The Jalveer, an Indian-crewed tanker, was hit by two missiles fired by a U.S. aircraft on June 11, according to U.S. Central Command.
