Persian Gulf War Brings Catastrophic Oil Spills

A devastating environmental crisis is unfolding in the Persian Gulf due to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, according to Greenpeace. The crisis involves repeated attacks on oil tankers carrying millions of barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Recent satellite images have identified at least 100 spills in the region, with five major oil slicks covering an area equivalent to about four times the size of Manhattan. The oil is spreading into protected and fragile ecosystems, including coral reefs, mangrove forests, and breeding grounds for sea birds.

Nina Noelle, a Greenpeace expert on environmental disaster relief, stated that 'oil can also sink into the sediment and impact the ecosystems for years and years.'
