Pertamina Sees Hydrocarbon Potential at Pangkah Working Area
State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) is exploring further hydrocarbon development at the Pangkah Working Area in East Java, following encouraging results from a recent drilling operation.
The Ujung Pangkah Field's UPA-17ST well recorded an initial flow rate of 2,443 barrels of oil per day and 3.72 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) of associated gas in March 2026, exceeding Pertamina's initial target.
Pertamina believes the results indicate opportunities to increase the value of the Pangkah asset through measured exploration and field development.
The company plans to utilize the gas produced from the latest drilling to supply industries in the surrounding area, taking advantage of its proximity to major industrial centers in East Java.
Pertamina aims to maximize existing infrastructure, including the LPG plant, while pursuing new hydrocarbon reserves to raise the value of the Pangkah assets and strengthen Indonesia's domestic gas supply.
