Peru Redirects LNG Exports to Netherlands Amid European Gas Replenishment

Peru's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have undergone a significant shift in recent months, according to data from Peru's hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro. The country's LNG shipments to Europe are now being directed to the Netherlands, rather than Spain, with 50 shipments leaving the Pampa Melchorita LNG plant liquefaction complex in the first half of 2026.

The Netherlands has emerged as the second-largest destination for Peru LNG shipments, displacing Spain. South Korea remains the anchor market, accounting for 15 shipments each in the first halves of 2025 and 2026. China also continues to be a significant recipient, with 9 shipments in the first half of this year.

The shift towards the Netherlands is attributed to the region's need to replenish its gas supplies ahead of winter. The Netherlands is an important injector of LNG-sourced natural gas into European pipeline networks, making it an attractive destination for Peru's LNG exports.
