Petra Energy Bhd has announced that its Adong Kechil West onshore oil well in Miri is set to see a progressive optimisation of production rates.

The company achieved first oil at the AKW well on July 18, and facilities are continuing to stabilise as operational performance improves.

Petra Energy holds a 50% participating interest in Block SK433, where the well is located. The block is operated by Petra Energy, Petroleum Sarawak Exploration & Production Sdn Bhd (PSEP), and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) under a petroleum contract with a tenure of up to 2050.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg reportedly stated that AKW is producing about 800 barrels of oil per day, or 24,000 barrels per month.
