Petrobras Eyes LNG Export Opportunity Amid Global Supply Disruptions
Brazil's state-run energy firm Petrobras is considering exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Asia, according to CEO Magda Chambriard. This move would mark a shift for Brazil, which has previously re-injected over half of its gas into oil wells to increase crude production.
The company's potential entry into the LNG market is fueled by growing demand and supply disruptions elsewhere in the world. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global trade passes, was closed due to conflict between Iran, Israel, and the US, causing a surge in LNG prices in Brazil.
Petrobras' CEO Magda Chambriard stated that the company is negotiating with Singapore-based shipbuilder Seatrium, with whom they have a strong business relationship. The partnership has already built several floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) units for Petrobras.
