Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned energy company, has signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement with Sempra Infrastructure to supply Petrobras with liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Texas. The deal will see Sempra supply around 0.8 million tonnes per annum of LNG to Petrobras.

The agreement is a milestone for Sempra's growing LNG business, according to Justin Bird, chief executive of Sempra Infrastructure, who described it as the first South American company in its LNG customer portfolio.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 has two liquefaction trains capable of producing around 13 million tonnes per annum. The project is currently under construction and expected to reach commercial operations in 2030 and 2031 for trains 3 and 4, respectively.
