Petrobras Powers Record-Breaking Offshore Oil Production in Brazil
Petrobras has driven record growth in Brazil's offshore oil production, contributing significantly to the country's overall output. In June, Brazil's oil output hit a new high at 4.5 million bpd, with Petrobras accounting for nearly 80% of this total. This represents an increase of around 700,000 bpd compared to the same period last year.
The success can be attributed in part to the steady commissioning of new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, which have expanded production at Petrobras' Buzios field. The eighth FPSO at Buzios, P-79, began operating ahead of schedule in May and has since ramped up output, reaching 1.2 million bpd in late June.
Petrobras is exploring ways to push the P-79 platform beyond its rated capacity of 180,000 bpd, having already exceeded this figure on seven existing FPSOs in the region by around 10%. The company's engineering director mentioned that careful management has allowed them to add approximately 130,000 bpd of production through these efforts.
