Petrobras Secures Long-Term LNG Supply from Sempra's Texas Project
Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned energy giant, has signed a 20-year deal with Sempra Infrastructure to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Texas. The agreement will see Petrobras receive approximately 0.8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG for two decades.
The Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project, currently under construction, has a total liquefaction capacity of around 26 mtpa, with two trains capable of producing up to 13 mtpa each. The project is expected to reach commercial operations in 2030 and 2031 for trains 3 and 4 respectively.
Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, welcomed Petrobras as the first South American company in their LNG customer portfolio, calling it an 'important milestone' for their growing LNG business. The agreement underscores the role that Sempra Infrastructure plays in providing reliable and secure U.S. natural gas to customers worldwide.
Petrobras is actively expanding its energy portfolio across multiple geographies, as evident from its recent entry into eight blocks offshore Côte d'Ivoire.
