Petrol Prices Soar Amid Middle East Tensions
Petrol prices have surged in Nigeria due to increased crude oil costs and supply chain disruptions triggered by heightened tensions in the Middle East. Amid rising international prices, with Brent crude trading at $104 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $99 per barrel as of September 13, 2026, oil marketers raised their ex-depot prices, including Dangote refinery, which increased its gantry price from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre.
Several filling stations in Abuja and Lagos have hiked their pump prices. In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), AY Shafa increased its price from N1,350 to N1,395 per litre, while Optima retail outlet raised its price from N1,360 to N1,450. Mobil outlet in Kubwa also increased its petrol price to N1,400 per litre from N1,350.
In Lagos, prices rose at various stations, including Conoil, NNPC, and Total Energies, with most selling above N1,380 per litre. The increases come after a surge in international crude oil prices amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted global oil shipping routes.
