Petroleum Commission Seeks Funds to Boost Oil Production

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy has appealed to the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢5.6 million to the Petroleum Commission.

The funds are needed for the commission to establish and operate a world-class data centre, which will strengthen its capacity to manage critical upstream petroleum data and improve its operations.

Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, emphasized that access to the funds is crucial to efforts to revitalise Ghana's upstream petroleum industry and increase oil production.

The committee has been conducting an oversight visit to assess the commission's operations and management procedures. They have also raised concerns over repeated budget allocations for oil exploration in the Voltaian Basin.
