The Indian Petroleum Ministry has disputed claims that the E20 petrol rollout would have had no impact on fuel prices. According to the ministry, the implementation of E20 prevented a ₹30 per litre increase in petrol prices when global crude oil reached $135 per barrel.

The ministry pointed out that 316 lakh metric tonnes of crude oil were substituted with ethanol, reducing foreign exchange outflow and increasing income for Indian farmers.

The Petroleum Ministry compared India's price hike to other countries during the West Asia conflict, finding that India's increase was relatively smaller. However, countries like the Philippines and China, which heavily depend on crude oil imports, were not included in the comparison.
