Petronas Eyes Asia's Growing LNG Demand with Diversified Portfolio
Petronas is well-positioned to capture growth in Asia's liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand, thanks to its diversified supply portfolio and expanding production capacity in Malaysia.
The company's vice-president for LNG marketing and trading, Ezran Mahadzir, said Petronas' integrated LNG portfolio provides the flexibility and reliability required by Asian buyers. This includes established operations in Bintulu, Sarawak, as well as supplies from Canada and an upcoming facility in Sabah, which will commission next year.
The new plant in Sabah will add two million tonnes to Petronas' portfolio, enabling the company to serve different Asian markets with varying LNG requirements. Mature markets such as Japan and South Korea may have saturated demand growth, but LNG remains crucial for data centres and efforts to reduce coal use in their energy mixes.
