Philippines Fuel Prices Soar Amid Middle East Tensions
Motorists in the Philippines will face higher fuel prices this week after two consecutive weeks of price rollbacks. The Department of Energy announced on Monday that diesel, gasoline, and kerosene prices will all rise from Tuesday, August 18, through Monday, August 24. Kerosene will see the steepest increase at P5.01 per liter, followed by diesel at P3.84 per liter and gasoline at P2.49 per liter.
The price adjustments reflect movements in the international oil market, where ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global oil supply and driven up costs. The Department of Energy stated that the price changes are 'based on the movement of the global oil market, amid ongoing events in the Middle East affecting global supply and prices.'
The increases will likely impact transport and logistics costs for Filipino households and businesses. Diesel powers much of the country's public transportation and freight sector, while kerosene is widely used for cooking and lighting in areas without reliable electricity access.
