A Filipino-owned company, Materials Nova Global Phils. Inc., is investing P100 million to establish a copper processing and materials recovery facility in Cavite. The project, formalized with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) on September 21, is set to begin operations in January 2027 within the Suntrust Ecotown Tanza Special Economic Zone.
The facility will process copper-bearing materials into high-purity copper nodules, ingots, metal shot, wires, and cables. The company plans to export 70% of its production to key markets like China, Japan, India, Singapore, and South Korea, while the remaining 30% will cater to domestic buyers, including manufacturers in economic zones.
The project aligns with the Philippines' efforts to expand its role in regional electronics supply chains, as electronics continue to dominate the country's merchandise exports. In 2025, electronic products generated $45.89 billion in export sales, accounting for 54.3% of the total exports. Copper and other processed materials are essential for various electrical and electronic applications.
Additionally, the facility will focus on materials recovery, transforming copper-bearing feedstock into usable manufacturing materials. This initiative comes amid a firm footing for copper prices, supported by improving Chinese demand and supply concerns globally. Copper prices rose 1.6% on Friday, settling at $14,540 a ton on the London Metal Exchange.
