Pit Road Penalty: NASCAR's Pre-Race Inspection Fails Bite Two Teams Hard

NASCAR's Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol is set to kick off on Sunday, but two teams will face an added challenge after failing pre-race inspection twice.

The No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford driven by David Gilliland and the No. 60 RFK Racing Ford driven by Ryan Preece each failed inspection, resulting in them losing their pit selection for the event.

This means that both teams will have to work from assigned stalls rather than strategically selected locations, which can be crucial on a short track like Iowa Speedway where passing becomes increasingly difficult once the field spreads out.

Under NASCAR's inspection procedures, teams that fail twice before a race lose their pit selection and car chief for race day. Joe Marra and Jerry Cook, the car chiefs of the No. 34 and No. 60 teams respectively, were ejected after the second inspection failure.
