PLN secures Natuna gas supply deal through 2037 with WNEL
PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned energy company, has secured a long-term natural gas supply agreement with West Natuna Exploration Limited (WNEL). The deal ensures a supply of up to 111 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from the Mako Field in the Duyung Block, Natuna, through 2037. The contract is part of PLN’s strategy to stabilize fuel supplies for Indonesia’s electricity sector.
The ownership structure of the Duyung Block has drawn public attention because PT Nations Natuna Barat, a subsidiary of Arsari Group, holds a 75% stake. Arsari Group is owned by Hashim Djojohadikusumo. WNEL, which holds the remaining 25% stake and operates the block, is the direct supplier in the agreement with PLN EPI.
While Hashim Djojohadikusumo’s name is associated with the block due to his ownership of Arsari Group, the gas sales agreement is strictly a commercial deal between PLN EPI and WNEL. The participating interests in the Duyung Block are separate from the parties involved in the gas supply contract.
