Poilievre Tries to Convince Albertans to Stay in Canada Ahead of Referendum
Canadian Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre visited Alberta to convince residents to vote against separation from Canada in an upcoming provincial referendum. The vote is scheduled for October 19, with a question asking Albertans if they want to stay in the country or have a second binding referendum on leaving.
Poilievre argued that separatists are upset with the federal Liberal government's policies, not Canada itself. He claimed these policies have left Canadians struggling financially and stifled Alberta's oil and gas industry.
He stated that 'separation will not solve those problems' and suggested Albertans should focus on forcing Ottawa to unlock the power of their oil and gas sector. Poilievre also attended a fundraiser for Conservatives for Canada, a group promoting Alberta staying in Confederation.
