Poland and Romania Block Ukrainian Grain Exports Amid Capacity Crunch
Ukraine's grain export crisis deepens as Poland and Romania refuse to increase transit capacity due to their own infrastructure constraints.
The Ukrainian Agriculture Minister, Taras Vysotskyi, has been urging EU countries to expand their capacity for transporting Ukrainian agricultural products through Europe. He also requested 1.1 billion euros to cover additional transportation costs.
Romania and Poland are not prepared to significantly expand their use of infrastructure for Ukrainian exports. Romania's Agriculture Minister, Barna Tánczos, stated that the country cannot double its train capacity or increase road and rail routes and ports due to existing pressure from low water levels on the Danube.
Poland also does not plan to increase transit, citing no intention to make changes aimed at increasing Ukrainian agricultural product transit. This leaves Ukraine with limited options for exporting grain through European routes.
