Poland's Copper and Silver Tax Revenue Soars to Record High
The Polish government is set to receive a record PLN 8 billion (EUR 1.83 billion) in revenue from the tax on copper and silver extraction in 2026, up from PLN 4.8 billion (EUR 1.10 billion) in 2025.
This represents a significant increase of around 68% from the previous year, and is largely due to a sharp rise in copper and silver prices. The average price of a tonne of copper has increased by around 34% in dollar terms and 30% in PLN terms over the past year, while the average price of an ounce of silver has risen by 87%.
The tax on copper and silver extraction was introduced in 2012 and initially covered only these two metals. In 2026, revenue from crude oil and natural gas will also be subject to the tax, but this is expected to contribute only a small amount to the total revenue.
