Precious Metals Soar on NYMEX as Gold and Platinum See Significant Gains
The New York Merchantile Exchange (NYMEX), a US futures market founded in 1882, reported significant price increases for precious metals on August 4. The NYMEX Division saw oil and other commodities rise, but it was the COMEX Division that drew attention with substantial gains. Gold futures surged by 1.79% to $4129.50 per troy ounce (31.1 grams), while silver futures jumped by a notable 4.14% to $60.06.
The price of platinum futures skyrocketed by 6.98% to $1769.70, a substantial increase that suggests investor confidence in the market. The NYMEX and COMEX Divisions are the two main trading platforms on the exchange, with the former handling oil, gas, and other commodities, while the latter focuses on precious metals like gold, silver, copper, and aluminum.
