Pritzker Calls on Oil Companies to Share Record Profits Amid Rising Gas Prices
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has written to seven oil companies asking them to share their record profits with consumers, provide transparency around pricing and operations, and disclose executive compensation.
Pritzker's letter was prompted by rising gasoline prices in the state, which have increased from $3.42 per gallon last year to $4.30 as of Thursday, according to AAA.
The governor attributed the companies' record profits to President Donald Trump's war with Iran and urged them to return some of those profits to consumers.
In a related development, Indiana Governor Mike Braun has declared an energy emergency in his state due to disruptions in global oil shipping lanes and Canadian wildfires affecting the Alberta Oil Sands Region.
