Punjab Mulls Wheat Rate Hike to Rs. 4300 per Maund

The Punjab government is considering setting the wheat rate at Rs. 4,300 per maund for the upcoming crop, which could provide farmers with greater price certainty before the sowing season begins.

This proposed rate is higher than the Rs. 3,500 per maund offered by private companies last year, and would be competitive with the current market price of imported wheat, which costs around Rs. 4,200 to Rs. 4,300 per maund.

Farmers are waiting for a formal announcement before finalizing their cultivation plans for the new season, as a competitive price for wheat could encourage them to continue or increase their plantings and potentially strengthen domestic wheat supplies.
