Punjab Secures Wheat Supplies with Record-Breaking Harvest

The Punjab province in Pakistan has secured its wheat supplies until the next harvest. According to the Food Department, the province produced over 22 million metric tonnes of wheat this year, exceeding its annual consumption requirement by around 5.5 million metric tonnes.

As part of the government's strategy to ensure uninterrupted flour production and maintain market stability, the Punjab Food Department is releasing government-held wheat to flour mills at Rs3,800 per 40kg. This move aims to stabilise flour prices by ensuring a steady supply of wheat to flour mills.

Director General Amjad Hafeez stated that the initiative will play an important role in maintaining market stability and discouraging unnecessary price increases. He added that the government's foremost priority is to ensure that consumers receive quality flour at affordable prices.
