Qatar Boosts LNG Traffic Through Strait of Hormuz
Qatar has increased liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to its highest level in over two months. This surge in activity indicates that Qatar is becoming more comfortable moving ships through the waterway, which had seen a significant decline following an attack on one of its vessels in early July.
According to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg, at least four laden carriers have been sent out through the strait in the last week, while two others have moved in the opposite direction to enter the Persian Gulf. The most recent shipment arrived at India's west coast on Thursday.
The increase in Qatari LNG tanker activity marks a significant milestone for the country, which had largely halted exports through the strait after the attack. Before the war, Hormuz handled about one-fifth of global LNG supply, but transits have become perilous due to numerous strikes on ships.
