Qatar PM Begs for Peace After Years of Regional Turmoil

Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani called for a period of calm in the region, asking for a 'peaceful year' in 2027 to alleviate the economic burden caused by ongoing conflicts. He made these remarks at the Qatar Economic Forum on September 21.

The prime minister referenced the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar, which was initially met with skepticism due to concerns over its ability to stage the massive tournament. However, Doha delivered an exceptional event that is still talked about today.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that Qatar has emerged stronger in each crisis and has proven it to both its people and the world. He also addressed the US-Iran conflict, which has severely affected Qatar's LNG exports, with shipments plummeting by 96% six months into the war, resulting in a $24 billion loss in gas sales.

The Qatari PM emphasized that Iran is not a 'peacemaker', citing its actions as the reason for regional turmoil. He begged everyone to give Qatar a break and allow it to have a peaceful year in 2027.
