QatarEnergy is currently in discussions to secure additional long-term contracts for liquefied natural gas (LNG) from US suppliers. The state-owned energy company is aiming to finalize deals in the coming months to purchase between 3 million and 6 million tons of LNG annually. This move comes on the heels of Qatar’s recent agreements with Cheniere Energy Inc. and Woodside Energy Group Ltd., which will supply a combined 7 million tons of LNG per year.
The talks are ongoing and remain private, with sources requesting anonymity due to the confidential nature of the negotiations. Qatar’s push to diversify its LNG supply outside the Persian Gulf underscores its strategic efforts to mitigate geopolitical risks and ensure energy security.
By expanding its US LNG imports, QatarEnergy is positioning itself to better manage supply chain disruptions and fluctuating global energy markets. The potential new contracts would further solidify the US as a key supplier for Qatar, complementing its existing agreements with major energy firms.
