QatarEnergy Ditches Pipelines for Strait of Hormuz

QatarEnergy's CEO, Saad Al-Kaabi, announced that his company will not build pipelines to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) through neighboring countries. Instead, they will rely primarily on the Strait of Hormuz.

The decision was based on commercial and technical studies, according to Al-Kaabi. He stated that QatarEnergy aims to increase its gas production from 77 million tonnes to 142 million tonnes per year, making it redundant to build terminals outside the country.

Strikes in March knocked out nearly 17% of Qatar's LNG export capacity at Ras Laffan, resulting in estimated annual revenue losses of $20 billion. The facility is the world's largest LNG export facility, accounting for about 20% of global supply.
