QatarEnergy Extends Force Majeure on Edison for Third Time

QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure notice to Italian energy company Edison for the third time this year, from mid-August to the end of September.

The state-run company has cancelled delivery of three more liquefied natural gas cargoes, bringing the total number of affected shipments to 24 LNG cargoes, or 3 billion cubic metres of gas.

QatarEnergy signed a 25-year contract with Edison in 2009 to supply 6.4bcm per year to Italy, but Iran's attacks in March knocked out nearly 17 percent of Qatar's LNG export capacity, causing estimated annual revenue losses of $20 billion.

Edison has assured customers that they will not be impacted by the force majeure notice, stating that it can source alternative gas for all its customers.
