QatarEnergy Extends Force Majeure on LNG Deliveries Amid Strait Disruptions
QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to clients in Europe and Asia, citing disruptions due to regular LNG shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The company initially invoked force majeure in March and has since renewed it monthly as the situation drags on.
Italian utility Edison stated that QatarEnergy would not be able to supply an additional five LNG cargoes slated for late September through early November, which raises the total number of impacted cargoes under Edison's contract since April to 29. This corresponds to roughly 3.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
QatarEnergy has informed buyers in Pakistan that cancellations will persist into October, while deliveries to Bangladesh will remain affected past September. Other European purchasers have also started receiving similar notifications.
