QatarEnergy Extends Force Majeure on LNG Deliveries to Edison
QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure status on deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Italian energy firm Edison until November. This is another extension of a force majeure for deliveries to one of QatarEnergy's biggest customers, with five LNG cargoes scheduled between the end of September and early November.
The disruption in Qatari exports has affected 29 LNG cargoes since April, with Edison replacing at least 17 of the affected cargoes on the spot market. The Italian company owns a 25-year contract with QatarEnergy, which commenced in 2009, and sees QatarEnergy deliver 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Italy has become Europe's biggest importer of LNG in July, amid a volatile market. Edison has been active on the spot market, assessing the situation and hoping that Iran could open up the Strait of Hormuz for shipping traffic.
