QatarEnergy Extends Force Majeure on LNG Exports Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis
QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure declarations on liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, affecting supplies to Asian buyers. The decision is due to ongoing disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for maritime trade in the region.
The company has been leasing LNG tankers through mid-October as part of its efforts to minimize losses and navigate the crisis. However, military tensions and attacks on vessels passing through the strait have increased regional export pressure, severely disrupting natural gas flows to global markets.
QatarEnergy has notified Italian energy company Edison that it will not deliver four additional shipments designated for the Adriatic terminal, which is part of a long-term contract extending through 2034. The agreement specifies supplying billions of cubic meters annually.
