QatarEnergy Extends LNG Delivery Suspensions Amid Hormuz Disruptions

QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Italy due to ongoing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. The move affects supplies scheduled for delivery beyond September, with QatarEnergy notifying Pakistani buyers that LNG cargo cancellations would continue into October.

The force majeure period for supplies to Bangladesh has been extended beyond September, while Italian utility Edison confirmed that QatarEnergy had extended the suspension of its LNG deliveries until early November. The disruption brings the total number of affected cargoes to 29, according to Edison.

LNG exports remain severely constrained due to disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a major constraint on Qatari LNG exports since the outbreak of the war between the US and Iran in March. The Iranian missile strikes on QatarEnergy's Ras Laffan facilities subsequently damaged infrastructure, reducing Qatar's LNG export capacity by 17%.
