QatarEnergy Halts LNG Deliveries to Italy Amid U.S.-Iran Conflict

QatarEnergy has notified Italian utility Edison that it will extend its force majeure suspension period on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries until early November due to the U.S.-Iran war. The Gulf supplier will not be able to deliver five LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery between the end of September and beginning of November.

This will bring the total number of canceled cargoes to 29, equal to 3.8 billion cubic meters of gas, Edison said in a press release issued on Friday. The utility confirmed its ability to source alternative gas for all its customers and meet its commercial commitments, citing replacement volumes at the Adriatic LNG terminal.

The contract between QatarEnergy and Edison has been in force since 2009 and has a total duration of 25 years. Under this agreement, Edison receives 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year from QatarEnergy, which accounts for around 10% of Italy's total consumption.
