QatarEnergy Seeks Long-Term US LNG Supplies Through 2031
QatarEnergy is in talks to secure long-term supplies of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) through 2031, according to a report. The company is negotiating multi-year contracts with Venture Global and Cheniere, as well as Australia's Woodside.
The discussions come as QatarEnergy seeks to replace volumes lost due to damage at its Ras Laffan complex, which was hit by Iranian strikes in March. Two of the facility's 14 LNG production trains and a gas processing unit were damaged, resulting in an estimated loss of 12.8 million metric tons per year of LNG production capacity for three to five years.
QatarEnergy has already purchased dozens of US LNG cargoes on the spot market to meet its commitments to some customers in Asia. The company's trading arm, QatarEnergy Trading, plans to purchase 2-3 million metric tons of LNG per year through 2031.
