Qatari LNG Cargo Clears Hormuz, Heads for Pakistan Amid Tensions
A Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, setting sail for Pakistan where it is expected to arrive in two days. The LNG carrier Al Marrouna, carrying approximately 81,936 metric tons of LNG from Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal, transited the strategically vital waterway on September 7 under a government-to-government agreement between Pakistan and Qatar.
The arrival of this cargo is expected to provide some short-term relief to Pakistan's power sector, which has been experiencing loadshedding of up to 12 hours in certain areas. The price for this shipment is equivalent to 13.37% of Brent, providing an important addition to Pakistan's LNG supplies.
The successful passage of the cargo has eased concerns about a prolonged disruption to Qatari LNG exports through the Strait of Hormuz and has put downward pressure on Asian benchmark Platts JKM and Northwest European LNG prices.
