Qatari LNG Exports Plummet 96 Percent Amid US Iran Conflict
Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have plummeted by a staggering 96 percent over the past six months, largely due to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. This drastic decline has resulted in a loss of $24 billion in potential revenue for Qatar, equivalent to roughly five months of national income based on 2025 financial forecasts.
The regional volatility has severely disrupted major international trade routes, with Qatari gas operations remaining paralyzed. Shipping intelligence from ICIS shows that only 18 Qatari cargoes successfully reached international buyers during this period, a drastic collapse from the 509 shipments recorded in the same timeframe last year.
Two local tankers suffered direct attacks in the crossfire, prompting operators to freeze further maritime movement. Prior to this crisis, Qatar supplied approximately one-fifth of daily global LNG requirements.
