Qatari LNG Tanker Struck in Hormuz for Second Time This Month

A second tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar has been struck in the Strait of Hormuz, just weeks after a similar incident. The GasLog Shanghai was hit by an unidentified projectile while leaving the strait on Friday, but all crew members are safe and accounted for.

The tanker had loaded its cargo in Qatar around last Monday and stopped transmitting its position near the western entrance of the Strait of Hormuz last Friday. The owner of the LNG on board remains unclear, and QatarEnergy has not commented on whether the incident has affected shipments.

This latest attack is a significant setback for Qatar's efforts to mitigate the effects of the crisis in the region. Jean-Christian Heintz, managing director of Wideangle LNG, said that even though QatarEnergy has the choice between using its own fleet or third-party carriers, the risk assessment might not differ.
