QuantitativeAlpha's Global Macro Regime Indicator Identifies Market Implied Macroeconomic Forces
The Global Macro Regime indicator by QuantitativeAlpha is a top-down macro nowcasting and portfolio allocation tool that provides a consolidated view of market-implied macro regimes.
The model aggregates 30 independent cross-asset market signals to identify shifts in the growth and inflation outlook, capturing two primary macroeconomic forces driving asset prices. It evaluates 10 equities, 10 fixed income assets, 6 commodities, and 4 currencies to determine the prevailing macro regime.
The four possible combinations of growth and inflation define four distinct macro regimes: Goldilocks (Growth ↑, Inflation ↓), Reflation (Growth ↑, Inflation ↑), Inflation (Growth ↓, Inflation ↑), and Deflation (Growth ↓, Inflation ↓). Each regime tends to favor different portfolio preferences and exposures.
The model translates these portfolio preferences into specific exposures across equities, fixed income, commodities, and currencies. The selected exposures have been systematically backtested across the four macro regimes dating back to January 1996.
