A pair of companies, Citroniq and Future Origins, has been named winners of The Radicle Corn Challenge. The challenge was sponsored by U.S. Corn Farmers and aimed to identify breakthrough technologies that create significant new demand for corn beyond traditional food, feed, and fuel markets.

Citroniq is working on producing 100% bio-based polypropylene using fuel-grade ethanol derived from corn. This innovation could transform the plastics industry by eliminating dependence on fossil-based hydrocarbons while reducing carbon footprints.

Future Origins, on the other hand, is commercializing fermentation-based technology to produce sustainable alternatives to ingredients widely used in home and personal care products. The company utilizes renewable feedstocks, including corn-derived dextrose, to create more resilient and traceable supply chains for these ingredients.

The Radicle Corn Challenge attracted applicants from around the world working on transforming corn and corn-derived feedstocks into higher-value products across various industrial applications.
