Rain and Humidity Disrupt Nebraska Corn Harvest
Frequent rains and humid conditions have disrupted the corn harvest in Nebraska, causing delays and potential problems for farmers. According to Eric Hunt, a Nebraska Extension educator, the state has experienced excessive rain and humidity this season, with cloudy days and high moisture levels.
Most of Nebraska's corn is exported or used as livestock feed and ethanol production, but chairman of the Nebraska Ethanol Board Jan tenBensel said that delayed harvests won't affect ethanol production or supply. 'There's plenty of excess throughout the nation,' he said.
Hunt warned that if the rain continues until the end of October, farmers will only have a few days to harvest before they're unable to do so again, potentially leading to harvests extending into November and beyond. He also noted that high moisture levels are affecting crops, with fungal diseases starting to appear.
